Copper State is a rapidly-growing league full of fantastic people, and we’d love to have you join us! There are lots of ways for you to participate!
We do new-skater intake twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
New skaters: We welcome anyone who wants to try their hand at roller derby, even if they’ve never skated before! Our “Baby Bats” training program will get you comfortable on eight wheels, then teach contact skills and derby strategy (if you wish to join a team). Learn more about Baby Bats here!
Transfer skaters: Anyone who has passed a minimum skills test and skated in at least one bout before the pandemic is eligible to join as a transfer skater.
We couldn’t do what we do without our amazing officials! Even if you’ve never officiated before, we’re happy to teach you everything you need to know.
Referees: Our skating officials call penalties during games and scrimmages and can attend practices to brush up their skating skills and/or share their knowledge of derby rules and strategies.
Non-Skating Officials (NSO’s): These volunteers run positions during scrimmage or bouts such as managing the penalty box, running the game clock, and keeping track of score and penalties.
It takes a lot of work to help keep the league running, and there are tons of areas that we could use your help in! We appreciate volunteers in the following areas:
- Running merch/snack/ticket tables during events
- Helping to promote the league by spreading the word about CSDL though social media, word-of-mouth, or other advertisements
- Serving as medical staff during events (First Aid, EMT, or other professional medical certification required)
- Non-profit, fundraising, and BOD experience as we continue to grow the league
